Hello music lovers! I’m Abhishek Mathur and I play the lead guitar in a band called Advaita. I recently got a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic handset which came with a voucher for redeeming songs at the Nokia Music Store. I have since then been exploring NMS and getting my hands on lots of great music!

Personally, I’ve grown up listening to all kinds of music and my tastes are quite varied. In school it was hard rock and metal and later I got into psychedelic stuff like Floyd and also blues and jazz. In college I also got turned onto electronic music and I was into trance for a while but settled on more dance / house type stuff like the Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim and also the darker down tempo trip hop of bands like Massive Attack. Later I also opened up to our beautiful Indian Classical music and on a lighter note older S.D Burman and Mohammed Rafi songs. (I know …that’s a lot of music genres – but I still listen to all these forms of music till today)!! By the way, found all of them on the Music Store! Kudos!

The first thing that struck me as I went looking for music on the Nokia Music Store was the fantastic variety of music available. There is a real HUGE reservoir of music here and a lot of rare stuff you can’t find anywhere! I must confess I wasn’t expecting this! So far I’ve already downloaded albums by Nine Inch Nails, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Enya and a bunch of other artists. Of course one doesn’t have to download entire albums and can get individual tracks as well. The 30 seconds preview clip works very well indeed. Gives a clear idea if the track is worth the download. The search engine is also a really well designed one, giving you not only direct hits but also rare collaborations and tributes to artists by others. I also got to hear a lot of new stuff from the “Try These” recommendations section which catalogues other music considered similar to what’s being previewed / downloaded.

The player is probably the only thing I feel could be designed better in terms of the display and how tracks can bequeued. But overall I’m quite satisfied! I can definitely vouch for the Nokia Music Store hands down! One last thing, do check out Advaita’s debut album ‘Grounded In Space’ on the music store! Cheers & Happy Listening!
